St. Joe County Public Library

St. Joe County Public Library contracted Boss Display to design and fabricate this immersive playscape for their children’s area. This miniature scale city consists of a supermarket, café, animal hospital, auto mechanic shop, bookmobile, vegetable garden, and an illuminated water tower. This gallery encourages young visitors to let their imaginations run wild, all while accomplishing the mission of creating fun and engaging memories of spending time at the library.

Project: Tiny Town

Location: South Bend, IN

Installed: August 2021

The pretend play Café area allows guests to serve up all different kinds of classic café style foods.

No detail was spared in the creation of the town, from the realistic miniature light posts, to the carpeting that simulates the roadways. Tiny Town provides a fully immersive experience for guests of all ages.

The interactive fireplace utilizes an internal air blower and tubing system to send scarves from the feed hole up to the top of the exhibit, symbolizing fire moving up and out the chimney.

Each pretend play building fits together to seamlessly create the look of a miniature town.

The raised planter beds simulate a real life vegetable garden where guests can grow and pick their own produce.

The large book-themed vehicle features an accessible pretend play driver’s compartment as well as shelving for featured books along each side.

Visitors can plant and arrange their own flowers in the interactive flower box.

The large scale water tower was custom built to fit around an existing pillar in the space and can be visible at night through the multicolored LEDs illuminating it.

Hand-carved and faux-painted rocks create the pretend play firepit, which is also illuminated by LED lighting underneath the plush logs.
